A four-year-old girl died on Friday, September 12th, at Doctor Balmis General Hospital in Alicante following catastrophic injuries sustained five days earlier after she fell from a fifth-floor flat in Calpe.
The fall occurred around five a.m. from a building on Avenida Diputación in this town’s Marina Alta, where the little girl was with other minors aged one and fourteen, the latter being the deceased’s cousin who had been left in charge of the two children in the absence of an adult.
From the balcony
The girl had been climbing onto a balcony since she plummeted into the void, hitting a car first, which most likely saved her life, but she was unable to overcome the significant injuries caused by the fall and was scheduled to be operated on when she died.
Her parents took her to a health centre in Calpe, from where she was moved to Alicante General Hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition and subsequently died.
The Guardia Civil has taken over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall, as well as the fact that the three kids were alone.
