A truck driver faces a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for allegedly stealing a 12,500 kg load of chocolates and other merchandise while delivering them from Zaragoza to Elche.
According to the Valencian High Court of Justice (TSJCV), the stolen goods are worth more than €113,000, when the defendant was hired by a transport company, which assigned him the truck and the service he was to perform.
According to the prosecution, on February 4th of that year, he was travelling with the sweets and, instead of delivering them to the company in Elche where they were supposed to be unloaded, he sold them for 1,200 euros to an Alicante businessman who was aware of their illegitimate origin and is also charged in this case.
The carrier then sold the 13 pallets he had used for the load to a company in Riba-roja, who had no idea they had been stolen, and abandoned the vehicle in Cox.
Based on the occurrence, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is proposing a two-and-a-half-year jail sentence for the primary defendant for theft of funds, as well as 18 months for the merchant for receiving stolen items.
