A 64-year-old woman was found dead inside a house on Calle Río Guadalquivir in Cartagena’s El Algar district on Tuesday morning, September 16th, with traces of being stabbed with scissors, according to sources close to the case.
According to the police, the victim’s 66-year-old husband was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the killing. The man had blood on his clothing when he was arrested. Neighbours told police that the sixty-year-old man left the residence in the morning, covered in blood, and claimed the wife was dead.
The woman’s body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Cartagena, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The initial visual examination indicated multiple stab wounds on the body.
The Benemérita Judicial Police has taken up the case and is investigating it as a homicide including gender-based violence.
The first death caused by gender-based violence this year
This would be the first female victim of gender-based violence in the region by 2025. The preceding case occurred in Cartagena at the end of 2024: Martha Isabel, 50, was strangled to death, allegedly by her husband, Pedro José, who later claimed that “voices” told him to kill her.
Vicarious Violence
In April, a man called Suso allegedly murdered his 5-year-old stepdaughter, Nadia, in Llano de Brujas, using drugs.
