On Sunday, September 21st, Francisco Lucas, the Government Delegate, requested that the Maritime Authority and the Guardia Civil remove a concentration of jet skis in the Mar Menor, as well as an illegal camp on Los Alemanes Beach, at kilometre 1 on La Manga, which is particularly protected by the seabed and bird nesting grounds.
At 1:30 p.m., an operation finished with the removal of ten Maritime Authority-approved nautical vessels and 14 unlawfully camped caravans on the shore. The Guardia Civil advised the Coast Guard to take proper action.
Some participants, who had responded to a social media appeal, resisted the expulsion, but once the Guardia Civil intervened, they consented to go.
“The Mar Menor is a protected area, not a circuit, and the Government Delegation will continue to act firmly to protect it,” Nicolas Lucas said.
