A British fugitive wanted for reportedly stabbing someone 24 times with a kitchen knife in a flat in Portugal’s Algarve in April 2022 has been apprehended in Alicante province.
The Guardia Civil carried out the operation in coordination with the British National Crime Agency (NCA) and Portuguese police agencies. After more than three years on the run, the man is said to have hidden in various areas throughout the provinces of Malaga and Alicante, taking advantage of his country’s numerous citizen colonies.
According to the Guardia Civil, the fugitive had a European Arrest Warrant issued by Portugal and had already been imprisoned after appearing before the Central Investigative Court of the National Court, awaiting extradition to Portugal.

The event occurred in April 2022 in the Portuguese Algarve, when he lived with the victim in an apartment and stabbed her 24 times. The victim attempted to defend herself and even escaped out the apartment window, but died soon after owing to the severity of her injuries.
Officers discovered narcotics secreted in the flat, and the fugitive was able to elude prosecution and flee to Spain, taking advantage of the presence of other British residents to avoid detection. During this period, he has avoided several police operations aiming at apprehending him, including attempting to run over officers.
Support from family and a change in lodgings
It is suspected that the fugitive had logistical help from his family and criminal entourage, making detection difficult because this network provided him with transportable accommodations and financial support.
Despite extensive precautionary measures and international police collaboration among Portuguese, British, and Spanish agencies, his presence was detected in the province of Alicante, and he was apprehended as he was about to leave one temporary residence for another.
The investigation was conducted by the Central Operational Unit and Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of Malaga, the British agency NCA, and the Judicial Police of Braga (Portugal), as well as the Alicante Guardia Civil. Officers from the Central Operational Unit’s Fugitives from Justice Team and Organised Crime Team, both stationed in Levante, made the arrest.
