National Police officers arrested a 43-year-old homeless man in Alicante on suspicion of forcibly and intimidatingly stealing jewellery and possessions worth more than 4,000 euros from a 52-year-old woman. She had invited him into her home for the night since she felt sorry for him. The man allegedly threatened to kill her if she didn’t pay him money and injured her arms, necessitating medical attention.
The victim explained that she felt sorry for a man who was spending the night on the street and offered to let him spend the night at her house, where he could shower and rest and where she could also provide air conditioning to combat the excessive heat in Alicante at the time.
The homeless man accepted the woman’s offer, but later that night, when the woman asked him to leave, he simply refused, telling her he was “very happy” because he had been sleeping on the streets for over eight months and had had a terrible time.
The victim first hesitated to report the incident to the authorities because, despite her host’s denial, the situation was not dire and she felt good about her act of good faith, according to a police statement.
Threats and Aggression
However, a few days later, the woman asked that the homeless man leave immediately because he began smoking what she suspected to be drugs inside the house. The man then turned hostile, allegedly threatening to kill her if she would not give him money, gripping her arms and caused injuries that required medical treatment.
Eventually, the individual departed the house. The victim found the following morning that he had stolen jewellery, money, and other items worth over 4,000 euros. As a result, she decided to submit a report with the National Police station.
Judicial Police detectives from the Alicante-Centro Police Station headed the investigation, with an emphasis on identifying the criminal. Following the investigation, the officers in charge of the case were able to identify the accused guy, who was discovered and apprehended as the alleged perpetrator of robbery with violence, intimidation, and burglary.
Following police investigations, the detainee was presented to the Alicante investigative court. The victim also asked for a restraining order against her accused attacker.
