Two robbers from Elche, one Spanish and the other Dominican, were detained in Madrid in connection with the robbery of a businessman whom they beat, threatened with death, and tied up to force him to hand over all of his money. The National Police are examining whether they acted on their own or under commission, i.e. as two hitmen. In their statements, they stated that they both lived in Elche (although one was originally from Madrid) and that they were in the Spanish capital “looking for work” in the construction sector, a version that investigators do not believe is credible and suspect they are hiding something.
The victim is a businessman who was robbed at his workplace last Thursday, September 25th. According to his statement, he was viciously assaulted with a wrench and tied up under the fear of death if he did not hand up the money he had. Both were arrested after a Madrid Municipal Police patrol noticed them dumping something into a garbage can before getting into a taxi. The police addressed these two people, aged 38 and 40, who convinced them that they had come to Madrid from Elche to look for work after being unemployed. The Kidnapping and Extortion Brigade is conducting an investigation, and the police believe they were on their way to Madrid to complete an errand. They also suspected they had agreed on a price with a third party, although this is only a supposition.

Hidden camera
After inspecting the materials they were carrying, they discovered identification documents and credit cards in the name of a third person, as well as notes containing numbers suitable with secret codes. They found keys in the garbage can. In addition to these goods, they had self-defence spray, black gloves, and glasses with a hidden camera. The National Police assumed command of the inquiry. The DNI sent them to the flat of a businessman in the Salamanca neighbourhood who was not home. From there, they walked to a commercial facility owned by him, which was locked from the outside. However, via a window, they noticed that the interior was disorganised and that there was light. They discovered the victim, who was shocked and damaged as a result of the assault. In his statement, he said that two people had arrived at the firm under false pretences hours before. After opening the door, they pushed him and shut it behind them. His nightmare had started. Blows that killed him and caused damage to the workplace to scare him. He was tied up and gagged with his own tie, unaware of what was going to happen to him, so he could not call for aid.
The robbers used a wrench and a series of blows to force him to open the safe, despite the fact that it was empty, as he had promised them. “Don’t come out or we’ll kill you,” they threatened, leaving him badly injured and tied up while taking his identification and credit cards with numbers inscribed on them. The battered businessman was treated by emergency personnel for several bruises and injuries. The two arrested men have been imprisoned for assault, threats, and illegal detention while authorities investigate whether they acted on their own or under orders from third parties.
