The Sant Joan d’Alacant University Hospital is getting a new kitchen. The San Juan Health Department, which is part of the Regional Ministry of Health, has put out bids for the refurbishment of this part of the hospital to make sure that workers’ health and safety are protected. The base budget is €240,000, which includes VAT, and the work should be complete in a month.
The goal of the kitchen remodelling and refurbishment is to make the areas for making and handling food more useful. The present status assessment says that the ceiling in the washing tunnel area is rusty, the lights don’t work as well because of water vapour, the floor is damaged, and the doors are in bad shape.
The assessment says that it is “urgent” to fix the problems in the hospital kitchen by remodelling the places where food is prepared, where people walk around, where people work, and where cars are washed. This will involve changing or fixing up the materials, cladding, and fixtures.
More specifically, a floor that lasts a long time and doesn’t need much care will be put in. It will be resistant to wear and tear from carts and workers. The current lighting will be replaced with LED lights, the current doors will be replaced with double-paned steel swing doors (four double-paned and nine single-paned), and the false ceiling will be re-framed.
Some services will need to move to a new location in order to do these things. The ovens, stoves (tilting pans, fryers, griddles, etc.), tables, and sinks will all be moved three meters from where they are now. The car wash tunnel will also be moved.
