The National Police have detained a man in Alicante who is accused of helping people enter Spain illegally and committing Social Security fraud by registering his parents unlawfully and sending them two invitation letters to come to Spain.
The police investigation started when officers from the Alicante Provincial Police Station’s Anti-Immigration Networks and Document Forgery Unit (UCRIF) found out that someone was trying to bring family members into the country illegally by using fake invitation letters.
The suspect’s application for two invitation letters included his registration number and his parents’ registration number. The National Police said in a statement that there was a clear plan to make sure that they would not follow the invitation letter’s rule that they may only stay in Spain for a maximum of 90 days. Instead, they planned to stay in Spain permanently.
The police did a number of investigations that showed the suspect’s parents had not left Spain by the time they were supposed to and were living there illegally. So, it was said that a significant crime against immigration law had been committed. Also, the suspect is said to have committed the crime of assisting illegal immigration by allowing and contributing to this.
While the suspect was in Spain, he supposedly let his mother register at his residence. This allowed her to get a health card and start medical treatment that cost about €9,000. After being found, he was finally detained for helping people enter the country illegally and committing Social Security fraud.
During the inquiry, authorities found out that the man who was arrested had also asked for two letters of invitation for his two sisters, which made them think he planned to commit the same crime again. After the police looked into the case, the suspect was taken to the Alicante Court of First Instance on Duty.
