At 5:11 p.m. on Saturday, October 11th, the National Geographic Institute detected a magnitude 2.3 earthquake with its epicentre southwest of Santa Pola and a depth of 4 kilometres. Some residents in coastal districts of Elche, such as La Marina and Balsares, felt the tremor, despite its low intensity.
This latest seismic event occurs just a few weeks after the one also recorded off the coast of Santa Pola, which had a similar magnitude and was felt in the municipality of Elche. Both are part of the mild seismic activity that typically occurs in this area of the Alicante coast, with no material damage.
