Police in Dénia have arrested a 39-year-old man who was wanted in Bulgaria for driving without a licence for a year.
Dénia Judicial Police officials found and apprehended the man after discovering that Bulgaria had issued an arrest warrant for a man who was supposedly living in the town.
According to the Bulgarian Penal Code, the crime he was wanted for in his home country would be considered a crime against transportation and communications.
The arrest warrant said that he was wanted for driving a car without the right driving licence for a year. A year earlier, he had been punished for the same crime by an administrative resolution. He had also been stopped from driving a car after using drugs, specifically marijuana.
The courts of the requesting country sentenced the fugitive to two years in prison for these crimes. He still has almost all of his term left: one year, eleven months, and twenty-nine days.
After the police looked into the matter, the person who was arrested was taken before the National Court’s investigating court in charge of the case.
