In Benidorm, a young man disrupted the peace of the night with blows. He hit a traffic light with a chair, not his hands. The event was filmed and posted on X (previously Twitter), where you can see the man, who is clearly agitated, hitting the street furniture over and over again.
Hitting a traffic light in the middle of the street
The footage makes it evident that the man is hitting a traffic signal hard with a chair. The video, which was shot on Avenida Alfonso Puchades and Avenida Rei Jaume I in the El Cruce district, is very clear: the young man repeatedly hits street furniture without anyone stepping in.
For a few seconds, he keeps hitting, while drivers and neighbours watch in shock.
Two National Police patrol cars showed up not long after. The young man hurried away with the chair when he saw the police cars. The officers acted fast and chased him on foot for a few metres before catching him and arresting him.
People in Benidorm have shared pictures of the incident, which only lasted a few seconds. They recognise the crossroads and talk about what happened in messaging groups and on social media. The video captures the whole thing: the punches, the patrol car arriving, and the moment the man is stopped.
So far, there have been no more details published about who the detainee is or what damage was done to the traffic light. It hasn’t been proven when the event happened either.
It’s evident that a chair, a traffic signal, and a random night were enough to disturb the customary quiet at one of Benidorm’s busiest junctions.
