Two men, 25 and 33, were arrested by officers from the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of Torrevieja after they followed a car that rushed off at high speed and drove dangerously through various streets of the town when they saw the police. They ran over a person on foot and hit two more cars while trying to get away. Finally, they tried to get away on foot, without shoes. The Guardia Civil did catch them, but not before one of the men fought back and hurt an officer.
The operation ended with the confiscation of a bag with almost a kilogramme of hashish in it. One of the people who was caught threw it away while running away on foot. The people who were arrested were taken to the Torrevieja Court of Instruction because they were accused of drug trafficking, dangerous driving, assault, major disobedience, and attacking a police officer. They were let go on bail with some safety precautions in place.
The event took place on October 13th, when a USECIC patrol was doing public safety work on one of the city’s main streets. According to a statement from the Guardia Civil Command in Alicante about the operation, the police saw a car at a crossroads that made them suspicious, so they decided to follow it quietly.
When they saw the police, the people inside started to drive erratically and zigzag, putting the safety of other road users at risk.
Quick escape
The authorities told the driver to stop, but he didn’t listen and sped away. The car drove into the lane of oncoming traffic multiple times throughout the chase, which put other drivers in a lot of danger. The car also hit a person walking, who had minor injuries and was treated right away by another police officer that got there.
The chase stopped when the car hit two parked cars. At that point, the people inside the car got out and ran away on foot, barefoot, because they had left their sandals inside. One of the suspects tossed away a rectangular green bundle with ten plastic wrappers of hashish in it while they were running away.

They were found and arrested after a long search. One of them fought back against arrest and even hit an officer, who was hurt.
The Civil Guard took 978 grammes of hashish, two mobile phones, 305 euros in cash, and the car used to get away during the operation.
Stopping
The Torrevieja station says that as part of the Guardia Civil’s crime prevention efforts, it is stepping up its efforts to keep citizens safe. Its goal is “to guarantee the peace and well-being of the residents of the municipality by increasing police presence in sensitive and high-traffic areas to prevent criminal acts.”
