The Guardia Civil has arrested a woman who was driving drunk and without a licence when her car plunged into the Serpis riverbed on Thursday night, October 30th, near the port of Gandia (Valencia). A 20-year-old woman who was with her died in the crash.
The woman who was arrested is accused of killing someone by being very careless and driving without a licence while drunk and on drugs.
The Guardia Civil said on Friday that the two women in the car, the driver who got out before the car sank, and the passenger who was found dead late on Thursday, are both Brazilian.
Sources haven’t been able to determine how old the driver was, but they did state that he “was not in optimal condition to drive.” They also said that the person who died was 20 years old.
The Guardia Civil has also said that the broken car will be taken out of the sea this morning.
The event took place in the town of Gandia (Valencia) at around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Valencia Fire Consortium got a call saying that a car had fallen into the water with two people inside. Three fire teams from Gandia and Oliva were sent to the area.
Sources from the Civil Guard said that the car fell around twenty metres into the Serpis riverbed for reasons that are yet unclear. This happened in an area near the town’s port.
One of the people was already out of the water when the firefighters got there, but the other was still missing.
The Guardia Civil’s GEAS squad was in charge of looking for that person, who was finally found dead a few hours later, at the end of the day.
