The National Police have detained a 27-year-old woman at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. The Polish authorities have accused her of fraud and are seeking her extradition.
The police said in a statement that the arrest happened after authorities in charge of checking and controlling passengers at the terminal got word that the order was in effect for a traveller on a trip from Ireland.
In this case, the authorities checked databases when the plane landed and found that the order had been in existence since September 2023. They then detained her.
The woman was wanted for crimes she allegedly committed in 2022 in the Polish town of Poraz. The fugitive, allegedly to make money, tricked a third party and others by pretending to be staff of the bank where the victim had put her money.
They deceived him into thinking his account was stolen and that he had to transfer his money to the criminals’ account. They stole 25,400 Polish zlotys from him, and he could face up to eight years in prison for these crimes.
After the police did their job, the detainee was sent to the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court (AN) in Madrid. This is the court that will handle her extradition.
