Manuel Villar, the deputy mayor of Alicante, said that the Traffic Department wants to “limit or exclude” Tuk-Tuks from going to the Old Town of the city. He also said that the local government wants the decision to be made “quite quickly.”
The councillor said during the press conference after the meeting of the local government, when asked about how to regulate this kind of car.
Raúl Ruiz, a socialist councillor in the City Council, has asked the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, to approve “now” a rule for how these vehicles might move about the city.
Ruiz stressed that even though the Socialist group proposed rules for these cars in Alicante that were passed in the June plenary session, the city officials “have done nothing about it.”
The PSPV councillor said that it’s not about “prohibiting them,” but about “preventing situations that put the people of Alicante and visitors at risk.”
He also said that “they can’t compete with an important service like taxis.” He ended by saying, “Barcala must follow the order of the plenary session, which voted in favour of regulating them.”
