Last Friday, October 31st, a worker at a waste management company in Alicante found the body of a young man while sorting through cardboard and paper that a vehicle had picked up from recycling bins.
The victim is a 27-year-old Moroccan guy who has been arrested for staying in Spain illegally. The National Police’s first guess is that he died by accident.
Injuries to the head
The body of the dead person had head injuries, but the autopsy found that these might have been caused by the machines used to collect and recycle trash.
Last Friday, late in the morning, the National Police got a call from a waste management company in Alicante. They had found the remains of a person amid the cardboard boxes that were supposed to be recycled.
The Violent Crime Group of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of Alicante and the Provincial Scientific Police Brigade both sent officers to the scene.
The first look at the body showed no stab or bullet wounds, or any other injuries that would point to murder. There were serious head injuries, but it was thought that the truck that picks up cardboard and paper from recycling bins might have caused them.
The authorities are looking into the possibility of an unintentional death, but they haven’t been able to figure out if the young guy was sleeping in the container when the collection truck went by and he didn’t have time to ask for aid, or if he had a health problem before that.
Last November, a truck driver saw a 22-year-old guy who had fallen asleep inside a paper container and stopped the baling machine just in time to save him.
