Four people have been arrested for attacking, running over, and shooting two truck drivers who were taking a break at the Ciudad del Transporte (Transport City) in La Mojonera, Almería, which has a population of 8,677. The drivers had planned to stop in the area when they observed someone trying to steal from them. The criminals surprised the truckers, threatened them with a knife, and then hit them with chains. Finally, one of the attackers shot one of the drivers, who was critically hurt after being hit twice. The people who were arrested are accused of a number of crimes, including attempted murder, robbery with violence, and having guns without permission. Three of them are being held in jail.
On September 21st, the event took place. The drivers had chosen to take their required break at the Ciudad del Transporte (Transport City) facilities, which are near to the A-7 highway and have a petrol station, restaurant and parking for trucks. They heard noises coming from the back of their truck around 6:00 PM while they were resting. When they got closer to examine, they saw a man inside who started threatening them with a big knife. There was also a woman nearby who was acting as a lookout. A few cars came after shocking them. A lot of people rushed out and started hitting the two truck drivers with clubs, metal chains, and other blunt things.
One of the drivers was able to get away. The second person tried but failed and was captured by the attackers, who ran him over three times, according to a statement from the Guardia Civil. Video from a security camera shows the victim kneeling in a field and being pounded by a group of individuals again and over again. Then a man comes up to him and shoots him as he tries to get up and run away. At that point, everyone who was part of the violent attack ran away. He was shot twice, once in the lower back and once in the right leg, and he was hurt badly. Paramedics from the 061 Emergency Medical Centre took care of him and then took him to the Poniente University Hospital in El Ejido. There, he had emergency surgery and then proceeded to the ICU. He was in the hospital for three weeks before being released.
Then, the Guardia Civil started looking into what had happened to find out what had happened. At first, it looked like the people who did it were part of a family group “dedicated to committing robberies in the area.” On October 28th, police detained the four people who were thought to have attacked. Two handguns and a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun that had been stolen in 2022 in El Ejido were found during the searches of their residences. There were also 9mm bullets and 12-gauge shotgun rounds, as well as knives, daggers, and other sharp weapons. There were also clubs and chains used in the attack on the truck drivers.
The people who are being held are thought to be guilty of attempted murder, robbery with violence, and having guns without permission. They are also accused of stealing electricity because all of their residences were connected to the power system in ways that were against the law. Three of them were taken to the duty judge in Almería, who ordered them to be held in jail. One of these three had an outstanding arrest warrant for crimes they had already committed. The Judicial Police of the Civil Guard Command in Almería’s Organic Unit did the operation.
