The “Playmovies” exhibition, which opens tomorrow, Saturday November 8th, will turn Petrer Castle into a voyage through the history of cinema. It will feature over 3,000 Playmobil pieces placed in eight enormous dioramas. The show will be open from November 8th to January 4th, 2026, every day from 11:00 AM to 1:45 PM.
The Playmobil world has its own versions of famous and modern movies including Ghostbusters, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones. The show is for movie fans, collectors, and families who want to do something fun and cultural.
The biggest new thing in this edition is the addition of a special diorama for “La Rendició” (The Surrender), which is one of Petrer’s most important historical reenactments. To make it again, a thorough photographic and photogrammetric study was done to accurately copy the outfits, helmets, and other ceremonial items. The 1 x 1 metre scenario has over 70 figurines and a detailed model of the Castle that has been changed to fit the Playmobil style.
Also, many of the items on display were made only for the show using 3D printing. They are not in the original catalogue of the German company, which means that each piece is quite unique and detailed.
Irene Navarro, the mayor of Petrer, talked about “the importance of continuing to preserve and enhance our Castle, the most beloved symbol of the city and the entire valley, recently restored, and which continues to be a historical and emotional landmark for the residents.”
Fernando Portillo, the Councillor for Culture and Heritage, talked about how hard his department and the Dámaso Navarro Museum are working to make heritage available “from a fun and educational perspective.” David Morcillo, the Councillor for Tourism, said that the Castle has become “a permanent tourist attraction,” with guided tours and daily service at the Tourist Office.
With “Playmovies,” the Petrer City Council shows that it is still committed to providing new cultural experiences that connect history, leisure, and sharing in a unique heritage site like the Castle-Fortress in the town.
