The National Police have arrested a woman in Elche (Alicante) on suspicion of fraud, falsification of documents, and theft. The woman who was detained is said to have used her past love involvement with the victim to get his bank information and change the payments he was supposed to get every month for his retirement.
The investigation started when an older person went to the police station to say that they hadn’t gotten their retirement pension payment. The Police Headquarters said in a press statement that after calling Social Security, they were told that the payment had been processed correctly. They then decided to submit the incident to the National Police.
Agents from the Judicial Police Brigade of the Elche Police Station were able to find out that the victim’s ex-partner had opened a new bank account and placed the pension money there.
The woman is said to have moved the money to a new account, in addition to taking out a loan of 2,000 euros and moving more than 4,500 euros from the victim’s real accounts. She knew the victim’s passwords and payment date.
The victim told the police that he had a lot of problems with his ex-partner, who even called the police twice to say he had fled away from home because he had Alzheimer’s.
After the police were done with their work, the 54-year-old detainee was sent to the Court of Instruction in Elche.
