How could this have taken place? That’s the question after a terrible accident on Friday that killed a 22-year-old man. The palm tree that fell on the CV-905 in Torrevieja destroyed the car he was driving. The driver perished right away.
The City Council said on the day of the accident that the tree was full of red palm weevils. The official report from the Provincial Fire Consortium also corroborated this. The city also said that it is in charge of keeping the landscaping along that central strip up to date.
The Torrevieja City Council told Actúa, the company in charge of taking care of parks and gardens, to check the condition of the row of palm trees next to the one that fell in the middle of the road, which is the main way to get to and from Torrevieja. They did this because there is a chance that the plague could also affect them. However, they have not yet made public the results of that check.
Mayor Eduardo Dolón said that he was upset by the disaster and the terrible chain of events that led to it. “The car just happened to be passing by at the exact moment the palm tree broke and fell on the driver’s side,” Mayor Eduardo Dolón repeatedly stated.
Torrevieja City Council started its yearly pruning of the 5,526 palm trees on the municipal inventory at the end of September. People on the governing team said that the pruning, which has already been done on most of the palm trees in the city’s inventory, was set to happen on the central reservation next week.
Dismay in a family that has lost someone
The town is in shock over the death of the 22-year-old from Torrevieja. The deceased and his family had unusual personal circumstances, as did the tragedy.
The young man had lost both of his parents not long ago. In a short amount of time, both of his parents perished. He had been staying with his younger sister at an uncle’s place since then.
During Holy Week in Torrevieja, the dead man, like his father, was a member of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus of the Fall. He carried the picture of Jesus as a bearer. He was also a great student at the Municipal Football School. He went to preschool and elementary school at the Cuba Public School. The city government has given the family all of its help.
