The Criminal Court No. 1 of Orihuela has suspended the first of the three scheduled sessions this Friday, as reported by the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community. The court has confirmed that the sessions on November 21st and 28th will proceed as planned, and depending on how the hearing unfolds, the court will consider the option of scheduling a third day, which would be coordinated with the involved parties.
Vegara and three other businessmen, some of whom are partners of the councillor in the ITV Vega Baja, face accusations of an alleged crime involving the falsification of commercial documents, along with two additional charges against the Public Treasury for VAT and Corporate Tax fraud.
The prosecution claims that they attempted to evade nearly one million euros in 2005. The investigation specifically highlights an alleged fraud scheme involving the submission of false invoices to the tax authorities for the purchase of 100,000 promotional diaries, aimed at tax deductions.
The mayor of Orihuela has declined a plea agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office to evade a potential prison sentence, as the prosecution is seeking a seven-year prison term for these offences.
