The Consell has given the go-ahead for the Second Vice Presidency for Recovery, Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory to sign a deal with the Elche City Council to pay for the work needed to get the Elche Metropolitan Transport System (E-TRAM) up and running.
The Generalitat will give the City Council a nominative subsidy of 100,000 euros as part of the agreement. This money will help move forward with the technical description of the future advanced metropolitan public transport system.
The goal of the project is to give Elche, which is one of the most populated cities in the Valencian Community and a vital part of its metropolitan area, a public transport system that is as good as the ones in Valencia, Alicante, and Castellón.
In March of this year, the Generalitat and the Elche City Council signed a general protocol of action that laid out the steps and tasks that each government must complete in accordance with its powers in urban and metropolitan transportation.
Both groups see the growth of the Carrús–Miguel Hernández University–Business Park axis as a top goal in a larger plan to make the town and its environs more connected.
The agreement makes it easier for institutions to work together to create a unified public transportation system that includes planning for infrastructure and services, as well as issues connected to intermodality, information, pricing, and the coordination of routes and timetables.
