The National Police detained a 44-year-old man in a hotel in Benidorm (Alicante) who was wanted by the UK for two charges of sexual assault. He had been sentenced to ten years in prison for these crimes.
The arrest happened while a citizen security patrol was working to keep people safe at a hotel complex in Benidorm. They saw the fugitive acting suspiciously when the police were there, which led them to identify him.
The person didn’t have any papers with them, so they were taken to their room. Later, the officers confirmed that there was an International Arrest Warrant out for them for two sexual assaults that happened in the UK on November 12th.
Sexual assaults in the UK
The National Police said that the fugitive was found guilty of a sexual assault in London in 2020 and another similar incident that happened soon after. However, he fled the country after being released on bail and failing to show up for a trial that had been set for him.
The Central Court of Instruction number 3 of the National Court is in responsibility of processing the detainee’s extradition to the UK.
