Wetherspoon, the British pub chain, has announced that its first outlet outside of the UK and Ireland would be at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.
Wetherspoon is like a British version of 100 Montaditos. It’s known for its cheap food, breakfasts, and, most importantly, its beer.
This is a historic moment for the business that Tim Martin started more than 40 years ago. It shows how significant British tourism is on the Costa Blanca, which is the most important in the whole region and brings in more than 500,000 people every month.
The business will be in a good location that thousands of Britons will walk through every day before boarding.
The pub will open at the end of January 2026 and be open every day from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The building will have an outdoor terrace and a single floor with about 93 m² of space for customers.
Wetherspoon’s business concept is built on offering low pricing that are easy to afford. Some bars in London sell a pint of beer for as little as £1.49, but the average price in the city is more than £6.
There are a lot of British classics on the menu, like the full English breakfast (from £4.45), fish and chips (from £8.39 for the small version), and a lot of burgers, curries, and pizzas.
Official sources say that about 90% of the menu will be the same as what you can get at other Wetherspoon pubs. This includes classic items like fish and chips and the English breakfast.
But the menu will also have local dishes like garlic prawns and Spanish omelette to fit in with the Mediterranean setting.
“We’re really looking forward to opening our first pub outside of the UK. We think that people who fly into Alicante will like it. The founder remarked, “Our goal is to open several pubs in other countries in the next few months and years, including some in airports.”
