Alicante City Council has now ordered the closure of a pet cremation after shutting down many well-known entertainment venues for not having the right municipal permit. The City Council did not give permission for a pet crematorium to run on Avenida Mare Nostrum, so the Department of Urban Planning has stopped it from doing so.
On August 19th, investigators from the Local Police’s Urban Planning and Discipline Unit checked out the “Caelum Pets” company’s premises, which are in the industrial region between the Ocaña road and the A-31. During the visit, they checked to see if the company has a licence or administrative permission to undertake the work.
The business owners said they had a planning compatibility file for the animal crematorium service, which the Alicante City Council said was “suitable.” The paper, on the other hand, says that “before operations can begin, the necessary environmental permit must be requested and obtained.”
Because of this, the Department of Urban Planning (in a decree signed by Councillor Manuel Villar in November) has told the company to stop working at the pet crematorium right away because they don’t have the right city licence. Additionally, the owners are told that if they do not comply, the Local Police will shut off the property.
Funeral home for pets
The now-closed company said on its service catalogue that it offered all kinds of funeral services for pets, including euthanasia, cremation, “grief assistance,” and wakes.
The business’s website says that it is “a place to pay tribute and, more importantly, help families cope with the loss” of their pets. The Caelum Pets website also says that the company operates stores in five Spanish cities: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza, and Alicante. The company provides memorial jewellery produced with the DNA of the dead animal. Prices range from €29.99 to €1,400.
