The camera system for public places in Dénia is presently being put into place. The City Council has started putting in the first 93 devices. This is the first step in a big project to make traffic smarter and safer that will be done in stages until 2027.
This first set of cameras also includes putting up a six-screen video wall at the Local Police Headquarters. From there, officers will be able to see images captured on public roads in real time and access data that will help them better manage traffic and improve prevention.
A project that will last three years and have 190 cameras
The city plan calls for the gradual installation of 190 cameras. About 80 of these are already in place in different city buildings and facilities. They will be added to the new system to streamline monitoring and increase operational capacity.
The tenders and municipal plans for 2024 and 2025 say that the new cameras will be put in key entry points, junctions, important roads, and places with a lot of traffic. Most of them will have automatic licence plate recognition (LPR) systems. This technology will help manage traffic better, find cars involved in accidents, control who may enter, and keep an eye on how people move around the city.
The project will take three years to finish, and the goal is to have the whole operating system ready by 2027.
Data analysis, prevention, and deterrent
The City Council has two main goals: to improve public safety by making it harder for people to commit crimes and to give itself a useful tool for analysing data. Putting all the cameras on one platform will let you gather data on traffic flow, circulation patterns, and entry points. This will help ease congestion and make the roads safer.
Municipal sources have already said in earlier rounds of the project that the technology will be very useful for things like finding stolen cars, finding cars without MOT or insurance, and providing pictures in case of accidents or problems.
878,000 euros in investment with money from Europe
The overall cost of the project is 878,000 euros, and 40% of that will come from European funding as part of the 2022 Tourism Sustainability Destination Plan. This program has helped Dénia support environmentally friendly and technologically advanced transportation projects, including as the digitisation of traffic and access control.
The action is part of the city’s plan to modernise how it runs cities with smart tools and make police response better in the city.
