The National Police detained the owner of the Alzira dental clinic where a six-year-old girl went for treatment on November 20th and died a few hours later.
She got to the Alzira police station at 12:20 yesterday, Wednesday December 3rd, when she was arrested for allegedly failing to help and committing crimes against public health. The police held the woman for several hours before letting her go, pending trial.
The Homicide Group of the Superior Police Headquarters of the Valencian Community is looking into this case to find out how the six-year-old girl died and how the four-year-old girl got very sick and had to go to the ICU after getting treatment at this dental clinic.
The day after the event, the dentist told the media that the girl “had left perfectly fine” from the office. She had been sedated for the removal of many baby teeth and to fill up some gaps.
The Health Department, on the other hand, shut down the dentistry clinic on November 21st, saying that it wasn’t allowed to do this kind of intravenous sedation. Some professionals in the field have questioned this, saying that there is a legal loophole in this case.
At that point, both the police and the Health Inspection Service began looking into what happened and the medicines used to sedate the two girls.
The police arrested the owner of the Alzira dental clinic just hours before they arrested the anaesthesiologist who did the sedations. They are accused of murder, injury, failing to provide assistance, endangering public health, and theft.
The other minor from Alzira who got quite sick after having a lot of dental work done was released from the Clinical Hospital of Valencia on Tuesday, where she had been staying for twelve days.
