Police in Alicante have arrested a plastic surgeon who worked in the Valencian Community on suspicion of sexually assaulting a patient while they were under anaesthesia. Judicial sources say that the event happened last Thursday, December 11th, in a rented operating room at a private hospital in the Region of Murcia, where the woman was going to have breast augmentation surgery.
There were two nurses and the doctor from the centre in the surgical area. They saw that the doctor was making gestures that seemed sexual after the patient fell asleep. Because the situation was so urgent, they chose to use a cell phone to videotape what was going on. The judge in charge of the case now has the tape, which shows the surgeon allegedly invading the victim, who was sedated and unable to move.
First, the nurses told the hospital management about what happened. Then they called the police. The Family and Women’s Assistance Unit (UFAM) of the Region of Murcia took over the investigation since it could have been a case of sexual violence. After looking at the evidence and finding the suspect, officials from the National Police arrested him at his mother’s house in Alicante and took him to police headquarters.
The case was heard by a court that deals with violence against women. The judge called the two nurses and the victim, a middle-aged woman from Molina de Segura, to testify. The victim’s complaint let the case go on. The prisoner was taken to court after spending three nights in detention and choosing not to speak. According to court sources, the judge ordered him to be held without bail because of the nature of the crime and the evidence that was already available.
