The National Police arrested a 27-year-old man in Alicante just minutes after he reportedly took a gold chain from an elderly woman.
The man is said to have attacked the woman and suddenly took the jewellery she was wearing around her neck. According to a police report, the suspect then ran away, and the victim called the police.
In addition, a number of witnesses saw what happened and were able to track the supposed robber for a short time. Several officers from the North District Police Station in Alicante hurried to the site, enough to help the woman and gather information that would help them find and identify the suspected culprit.
Several witnesses gave the police information about the suspect’s physical features and clothing, which helped them start a quick search of the area. They found him a few minutes after the robbery and arrested him on charges of robbery with violence.
The National Police said that in this case, “as in many others,” civilian cooperation was “fundamental” to discovering the suspected thief, who “even quickly changed his trousers to make it harder for the officers to identify him.”
After the police investigation, the apprehended individual was turned over to the duty magistrate in Alicante.
