Three additional women have come forward to say that the surgeon was caught and put in jail for allegedly raping a woman who was under anaesthesia and then operating on her in a rented operating room in Murcia, according to people close to the case.
This doctor also operated on these women. He is now in pretrial jail at the Sangonera prison after two nurses filmed a video on their phones that allegedly shows him sexually assaulting a comatose patient.
The doctor who operated on one of the complainants the day before the sexual assault in question is the same doctor who operated on the other complainant. The people who complained all concur that their biggest fear is that they were also victims at the time and will never know it.
Investigators hope that these are not the only ones and that more of this doctor’s former patients would come forward with their stories. But both they and the courts say that it is hard to prove that anything may have happened at any time.
The same sources mean that it is already hard to prove a sexual assault, since it happens in private with no witnesses or cameras. In this case, the possible victims would also be under anaesthesia, so they wouldn’t be able to remember anything.
Getting them to agree to liposuction
The people who complained talked to National Police officers at the police station and agreed that they had called the surgeon to get breast augmentation surgery. The surgeon then tried to convince them to have liposuction to remove fat from their thighs and then inject it into their breasts. One of the women agreed.
The complainants had their cosmetic treatments done at the same place, IMED Virgen de la Fuensanta, in the city of Murcia, not too long ago. One of the complainants actually had a procedure on December 3rd, the day before the sexual assault that the magistrate in charge of Court No. 4 of Molina de Segura is looking into. This court has the power to hear complaints of violence against women.
The judge is waiting for the women’s statements, which the National Police investigators must send, before calling these complainants to court. She will probably also call the nurses who saw what happened on the stretcher again.
The inquiry is still going on, and it’s possible that more people will come forward with complaints or that healthcare workers who worked with the surgeon under suspicion and saw something weird about him in the operating room will come forward.
Sources close to the doctor said that he stopped operating in one of the centres because he “took too long” to do so. He had been renting operating rooms in the Region for years.
