Denia has started cutting down pine trees on the Castle grounds. Pepe Doménech, the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, said that the cutting down of the trees began near the entrance to the monument and would continue along the main approach to the Palace esplanade. The goal is to “open access to visitors via this route as soon as possible.”
About 130 adult pine trees will be cut down in all. The councillor says that these trees are dead and could fall in bad weather, like the rains that have poured since October.
So, to make the site safer for visitors and personnel and to protect its historical and natural context, public access was stopped on November 27th, and the trees that were harmed are already being cut down. The work has been commissioned as an emergency solution with a budget of €64,000 and a completion timeline of five weeks.
Christmas guided visits of the monument suspended
The Archaeology and Museums Department’s “A Christmas for History” programme’s guided tours at the Castle have been put on hold because of the building work. The “Dénia, Watchtower City” Interpretation Centre (December 21st and 28th and January 4th) and “Discover the Castle” (December 24th and 31st) were where the tours were going to take place.
