According to a statement from the police, two people, a 33-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, have been arrested by the National Police. They are accused of stealing jewellery and 29,300 euros in cash from the account of a 77-year-old woman. They also tricked her into selling her home for 400,000 euros, supposedly to buy a better one.
The Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit agents at the Provincial Police Station of Alicante stopped a scam against an elderly woman. She went to the police station to report a crime, saying that someone had stolen money and jewellery from her house.
The investigations that followed pointed to the involvement of two people who had recently been in touch with the victim: a guy and a woman. The victim had allegedly been coming to the bank with them to withdraw money, which amounted to 29,300 euros.
It was also found that a date had been set at a notary’s office in Alicante for the sale of the victim’s home. A real estate agency was responsible for the notarial act, and they confirmed that the owner had sold the home. A woman who said she was a friend of the seller told them to put the money from the sale into a new account that she gave them.
Finally, the agents in charge of the case found and arrested the two people they thought were responsible for the crimes of theft and fraud. They did this after fully identifying both people and getting other evidence that directly linked them to the crimes. The man was sent to the Duty Court, and all evidence was sent to the Alicante courts.
