“1-1-2” says that a 67-year-old man died inside an abandoned mine in Cartagena after going down there to look for minerals.
The alarm went out in the morning when the Emergency Coordination Centre got a call asking for help for the man who had been hurt while digging for minerals in the Haiti mine in the Cartagena neighbourhood of El Beal.
The victim was about 300 metres deep and had been hit by a big rock, which hurt him badly.
Firefighters from the Cartagena City Council’s Fire and Rescue Service (SEIS), the Guardia Civil, and a Mobile Emergency Unit from the 061 Health Emergency and Urgent Care Management were sent to the scene.
Emergency medical workers confirmed that the hiker had died. After 9:00 p.m., the Guardia Civil’s Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) found the body with help from the Cartagena Fire Department.
