The Torrevieja City Council has given the job of expanding the city cemetery to a contractor. This will include building 296 new niches. Trisacor Infraestructuras y Servicios SL will do the repair for €253,493.79 (including VAT), and the warranty period will be extended by 15 months.
Federico Alarcón, the councillor secretary of the Local Governing Board, said that the contract, which was signed through a simplified open procedure, will last for five months from the signing of the site handover report.
Sandra Sánchez, the Councillor for Cemeteries, said that a one-year warranty period from the date of completion has been set because of the nature of the project. The project includes building four pavilions in the Poniente Cemetery, each with 68, 68, 80, and 80 niches, as well as redeveloping the regions that would be affected.
Sánchez said that the building of 460 niches was finished in 2022, and about 150 of them are still empty. He did say, though, that the city’s plans involve more growth to meet demand and make sure there is enough space.
There will also be landscaping work done in green areas, and the monument honouring the members of the brotherhood will be moved from one of the locations that will be utilised for the new interment. To protect the trees that are already there, the trees that are impacted will be moved to a different part of the cemetery.
