The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility given the go-ahead yesterday, Tuesday, December 30th, to raise tolls on state-owned roadways in 2026. So, starting on January 1st of next year, tolls will go up by 3% to 5%, depending on the exact conditions of each concession.
There are two quite distinct circumstances in the province of Alicante. It’s important to note that the second Alicante ring road, which is part of the AP-7 highway, has been free of tolls for more than a year. So, drivers that use this road between El Campello and its connection to Monforte can keep using it without having to pay anything. But anyone who are driving from the motorway junction at Catral to Cartagena will have to pay, and their bill will go up 4.68% if they qualify for a discount or 5.86% if they don’t.
At the moment, the toll is shared by three places. The price changes based on the time of year. The low season is for regular drivers and the months that aren’t summer or Easter. For cars, the charge is €2.75; for big vehicles like vans or trailers, it’s €9.70; and for trucks, it’s €6.20. During the busy season, which runs from June to September, the price goes up to €4.85 per trip for cars and between €5.65 and €6.90 for big vehicles.
The toll at the start of the year will be €2.88 for automobiles with discounts and €2.91 for cars without discounts, plus the hikes in 2026. By the summer, the prices will be €5.08 for car drivers with discounts and €5.13 for cars without reductions.
The new toll rates, which also apply to the AP-51, AP-61, AP-6, AP-53, AP-66, AP-7 Málaga-Guadiaro, AP-68, AP-71, AP-9, and AP-46, have been approved by Ministerial Order at the request of the Government Delegation to the National Toll Highway Concession Companies. The toll charges for the highways controlled by the State Land Transport Infrastructure Company (SEITT)—R-3/R-5, R-2, R-4, M-12, AP-7 (Cartagena-Vera), AP-36 (Ocaña-La Roda), and AP-41 (Madrid-Toledo)—will also be up by 2% in 2026 for all types of vehicles. The Ministry has also decided to keep the current policy of free tolls on SEITT highways from midnight to 6 a.m. every day of the year.
