The Three Kings’ Day parades in Orihuela, Torrevieja, and Villena have been pushed back from Monday, January 5th, since Storm Francis is expected to bring bad weather to the province of Alicante. The parades will now be on Tuesday, January 6th, although the times and, in some cases, the routes will be different.
Orihuela and Torrevieja have both made the decision in the Vega Baja region after discussions with municipal agencies, security forces, and emergency services, where they concluded that public safety should come first.
Adapting to the weather
On January 6th, Tuesday, at 5:00 PM, the Three Kings Parade will happen in Torrevieja. The route will start at Paseo Vista Alegre and go via the streets of Clemente Gosálvez, Ramón Gallud, Zoa, and Caballero de Rodas before terminating at Plaza de la Constitución. The City Council has said that the procession may be changed to fit the weather, but the customary format will stay the same.
Two different parades will happen in Orihuela. The parade in Orihuela Costa will start at 5:00 PM and leave from the Zenia Boulevard retail centre. It will take a different route. The procession will commence at 6:00 PM in the centre of Orihuela. It will follow its usual path from Las Espeñetas to the Gabriel Miró roundabout.
Villena’s Snow
The Villena City Council has moved the Three Kings’ Parade to Tuesday, January 6th at 6:00 PM because AEMET (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) and the Valencian Regional Government’s Emergency Coordination Centre have issued a yellow alert for snow in the Alto Vinalopó region. The route will stay the same, and all other events will go on as planned. This includes the visit to the nursing home at 10:00 AM and the reception at the Salesian school from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, where the mayor will give Their Majesties the keys to the city.
The three municipal councils have asked people to follow safety rules, stay inside if the weather gets worse and check official sources for any news.
Other towns and cities in the province
El Campello and Busot, which are in the L’Alacantí region, and Dolores, which is in the Vega Baja region, had previously chosen to cancel their parades this Friday. In the same way, Albatera and Santa Pola had already moved their parades to Tuesday, the 6th. Calpe joined this list of delays on Saturday. Its town council also moved the celebration to Tuesday.
