According to a statement from the Police Headquarters, National Police officers have arrested a 54-year-old man from Peru in the town of Alicante. The Peruvian authorities had issued an International Arrest Warrant for him for fraud.
The agents learnt that the individual who was arrested was wanted by the Peruvian authorities after he went to the police station to help with an investigation into a missing person.
When officials looked up the person’s name in police databases, they found that Peruvian authorities had issued an International Arrest Warrant for fraud in March 2022. He was wanted for crimes that happened in the Peruvian city of Trujillo in 2008.
The fugitive is accused of committing fraud by selling a property with the aim to deceive others. If found guilty, he may face up to six years in prison.
After the police investigation, the detainee has been handed over to the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court in Madrid. This court is in charge of carrying out the steps needed for his extradition.
