A 45-year-old male in Orihuela has been arrested by National Police officers on charges of assault, illegal detention, human trafficking, and making grave threats. The jailed man tricked his son-in-law by promising to travel to Spain and get him a job in agriculture, but his real goal was to use compulsion, threats, physical assault, and illegal detention to make him commit crimes.
The investigation started after a man said that a family member had repeatedly threatened him and physically attacked him.
The victim informed the investigators that he travelled to Spain as a result of his father-in-law’s deceptive promise to provide him with a field labour job there.
After entering Spanish territory, he confirmed that the real objective of this relative was to use him to carry out criminal activities, primarily theft and robbery, with the goal of forming a formal criminal organisation and carrying out more extensive illegal activities like stealing cars or drugs from other criminal groups, which are referred to as “rip-offs.”
Robberies
Because of his precarious position, he initially consented to steal tiny amounts of food. Later on, though, his father-in-law insisted that he carry out violent thefts, including stealing purses.
He continuously attacked him and threatened to kill him when he refused to take part in these illicit activities in an effort to coerce him into committing crimes.
He was detained against his will in the house where he resided, constantly watched, and beaten in addition to the severe attacks and threats.
Medical care
After being attacked again, he was desperate enough to flee his home and seek assistance from a police unit. They transported him to Vega Baja Hospital, where he received medical attention for his wounds.
When he was released from the hospital, he had no money or possessions, so he had to seek assistance until he had enough to go to the police station and submit the appropriate report. In Elche, he was also able to stay at a shelter.
Given the gravity of the situation, the officers took action to elucidate the facts and identify the suspected offender, who was found and taken into custody following a police operation.
Following his arrest, the Judicial Authority was requested to provide permission for a search of his Orihuela town residence in order to find any proof or indicators of his illegal activity.
Following the police investigation, the arrested man is now available for the Elche duty magistrates.
