The National Police said that two people, one of whom is a juvenile, have been arrested in Benidorm, Alicante, on suspicion of drug trafficking. They were stopped at a police checkpoint carrying more than half a kilo of cocaine.
The events happened when police saw a luxury car coming up to the checkpoint. The 50-year-old motorist and his 17-year-old passenger are said to have suddenly changed lanes in an attempt to evade the control.
Police stopped the car and found out who was inside. A quick search was done at first, but since the travellers couldn’t show proof of ownership for the car, they and the car were escorted to the Benidorm Police Station for more checks.
The Canine Unit of the National Police from Alicante did a more thorough check of the car while the officers were checking the documentation. A drug-sniffing dog pointed out a certain spot where a rock of cocaine measuring about 580 grammes was located. The youngster also had €250 in cash on him, which was taken.
They both were arrested because they were thought to be involved in narcotics trafficking. The adult suspect is now in the hands of the court system, while the case involving the kid has been sent to the Alicante Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
