The Department of Street Cleaning, in partnership with Benidorm’s Local Police, has increased surveillance of uncontrolled dumping found across the municipality, particularly in the most problematic locations and where infractions are most common.
In this regard, the City Council noted that the surveillance campaign to prevent unlawful dumping has already had results, with numerous offenders caught in the act and fined accordingly. As previously reported, the City Council has initiated a campaign to improve surveillance in areas where there is a higher presence and frequency of the unauthorised disposal of rubble and inert materials.
Councillor Luis Navarro stated that, in addition to asking local police to improve surveillance, “we will continue installing surveillance cameras at specific locations.” These activities are part of the City Council’s ongoing public awareness campaign against unlawful construction debris dumping, which has included the removal of materials from similar dumps for several days.
Plots in the nightclub area next to Avenida Comunidad Valenciana, as well as those bordering the municipalities of Alfaz del Pi and Finestrat, are receiving increased attention, and several fines have already been imposed on offenders caught illegally dumping their waste.
The Street Cleaning Department has begun a campaign to promote the usage of the recycling centre, “especially for individuals and small businesses carrying out minor construction work with the appropriate permits.” The councillor emphasised that “anyone can bring their waste to the recycling centre as long as it is sorted and separated. “It is completely acceptable there, and we are doing our part to help the environment.”
Navarro stressed that construction companies “have a legal obligation to find a waste management company to dispose of their waste” and that “it is prohibited to deposit it in public spaces, which then become uncontrolled dumps.” The councillor emphasised the existence and operation of the Benidorm ecopark as “a place where we must take rubble and bulky waste.” He also mentioned that individuals could employ the municipal bulky waste collection service. “Just call, and they’ll pick it up the same day. It’s about everyone doing their part, working together, and remembering that public areas belong to everyone. The phone number for bulky rubbish pickup is 965 855 184.
