The Guardia Civil demolished an alleged vehicle inspection ring at the Ondara ITV station. The operation took place on Monday, February 2nd, and resulted in at least six arrests, with numerous more people being investigated. A Guardia Civil officer is allegedly among those arrested, however the extent of their involvement has yet to be determined. The most evident result of the operation is the massive disruption it has produced at the inspection facilities, where manpower has been badly depleted. Furthermore, it is currently impossible to book an appointment online.
According to the inquiry, the network illegally approved repairs that had not been completed on vehicles with major technical flaws, allowing them to pass the vehicle inspection (ITV). This approach jeopardised road safety by allowing the circulation of automobiles that did not fulfil the required standards.
The arrests of staff at the Ondara vehicle inspection station on Monday morning led the facility to temporarily cease operations. As a result, some drivers were unable to receive their planned examinations.
Those arrested and under investigation include station staff, mechanical workshop owners, and regular customers. The Guardia Civil has initially accused them with document fraud and traffic violations, but sources say the investigation might be widened to include charges of belonging to a criminal organisation and continued corruption among private citizens.
