According to the Provincial Consortium, a fire broke out in a hostel in El Altet, Alicante, forcing firefighters to rescue 13 individuals who had inhaled smoke.
The fire started around 3:55 a.m yesterday, Wednesday February 4th. The incident occurred in the reception area of the El Altet hostel on Avenida Dama de Elche, for unknown reasons.
The building was filled with smoke, and there were many people in their rooms, so the firefighters began extinguishing the fire and rescuing all of the guests and personnel.
Nine people were rescued using rescue hoods, while four more were rescued from balconies using aerial ladders. The Valencian Regional Government’s health staff treated these victims for smoke inhalation before transporting them to a health centre.
Firefighters then searched all of the rooms to make sure no one was still inside and ventilated the building to get rid of the heavy smoke.
Personnel from the Elche and San Vicente fire stations assisted with the rescue mission. Elche and San Vicente fire engines, as well as a ladder truck and an Elche mobile intensive care unit (UMJ), was used.
