The arrest by the National Police of two young Algerians accused of robbing fellow countrymen was the only notable incident on Wednesday, February 4th, during the latest day of migrants queuing at the Algerian Consulate in Alicante to sign a power of attorney to request a criminal record certificate in their country for regularisation.
Around 10:00 a.m., an Algerian citizen approached one of the security personnel stationed near the migrant queues, prompting the National Police to respond. The man informed the officer that the previous day, a fellow countryman waiting in one of the lineups assaulted him and seized his mobile phone.
The National Police have identified and arrested the 29-year-old man accused of committing a violent robbery.
However, the police operation did not stop with this arrest. While this arrest was being made, a third Algerian immigrant approached the police to report that the 27-year-old man who had claimed to be the victim of a violent robbery had stolen a mobile phone worth 200 euros from him in early January, an incident that had been reported to the Guardia Civil headquarters in Valencia. As a result, the first complainant was arrested by police for a minor theft charge.
