Following the discovery of the animal, a local neighbour notified the authorities. The Denia Local Police then called the Oceanogràfic’s Marine Rescue Unit, which arrived at the scene with a team of veterinarians to handle the problem.
According to the same sources, the animal, which appeared to have a natural viral illness, died. A necropsy will now be conducted.
Authorities have cautioned the public that if they face a similar circumstance, they should call 112 and avoid touching the animal.
They also thanked “the swift action of citizens, which is essential in these types of situations, as well as the specialised work of the rescue teams.”
