As part of Operation Campis, the Guardia Civil arrested a man in Ibi for allegedly committing five new fraud offences involving the illegal purchase and selling of camper trailers. This action marks the second phase of the investigation, which ended in his arrest in July for at least ten fraudulent transactions, as we reported last month.
Following the initial phase of the operation, the probe Department of the Ibi Main Post expanded its probe, resulting in the discovery of five fresh complaints from victims in Valencia, Tarragona, Las Palmas, and the Balearic Islands. The examination of the events indicated a consistent strategy: the inmate advertised vans on online sales platforms, stating that they included conversion work that was never completed.
The sales contracts he facilitated featured major anomalies, such as the seller’s signature missing or the finished vehicle’s delivery date being omitted. Furthermore, to impede investigations, he utilised bank accounts in the names of third parties to receive money, and in some cases, he provided the same vehicle to multiple victims.
The investigation discovered that the inmate had prior experience in the camperization industry and had legitimately created a company in May to purchase and sell automobiles and accessories.
On August 13th, after compiling the requisite evidence, the Guardia Civil arrested him in Ibi and charged him with four more fraud counts. As part of the operation, three vehicles were confiscated at a workshop holding unsuitable items, with no signs that conversion work had commenced.
The detainee and the seized vehicles were presented before Investigative Court No. 2 of the Ibi Judicial District, which authorised his release on bond.
The inquiry is ongoing, and it is possible that additional victims will emerge. The Guardia Civil welcomes the information received so far and encourages anyone who believes they were victims of these acts to contact the Ibi Civil Guard Main Station at 966 553 521.
