The MasterChef test, which was filmed in the city following Alicante’s appointment as the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, will show on RTVE tonight, Monday June 16th. RTVE’s culinary talent show, produced in conjunction with Shine Iberia, travelled to Alicante in March to conduct an outdoor test for one of its programmes, which will premiere on Monday.
The 12+1 edition of MasterChef, led by chefs Samantha Vallejo-Nágera, Pepe RodrÃguez, and Jordi Cruz, aimed to participate in the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2025, alongside the finalists. Shine Iberia, the culinary talent producer, assures that “walking the streets of Alicante means immersing yourself in a world full of flavours where tradition and gastronomic innovation are masterfully intertwined.”
“Known as the City of Rice, Alicante’s culinary offerings go beyond just rice dishes, highlighting the freshness of its fish and seafood, the produce from its gardens, its characteristic traditional desserts, and its deep-rooted ice cream tradition,” according to the authors. “The talent show will pay tribute to Alicante’s delicious cuisine with a very challenging competition featuring a four-course menu created by chef JoaquÃn Baeza (1 Michelin star) for 50 local residents and personalities,” the business that organised the event said.
The competition judges also went to the Central Market to learn more about Alicante products and exchange impressions with the mayor, Luis Barcala, who then attended the outdoor competition next to El Postiguet beach with the councillors for Tourism, Ana Poquet, and Hospitality, Commerce, and Markets, Lidia Lopez.
The mayor emphasised that the culinary talent’s choice of Alicante “is a fantastic showcase for our excellent gastronomy and local produce in a special year, given that we are the capital of Alicante, which aims to showcase Alicante’s cuisine, both traditional and innovative, and promote tourism around fine dining.”
The entire episode will be broadcast on La 1 and RTVE Play on Monday, June 16th, at 10:50 p.m.
