an “example of public-private collaboration that promotes economic activity, job creation and tourism capacity.”
The highest representative of the Valencian Executive has pointed out that this project is an “example of public-private collaboration that promotes economic activity, job creation and tourism capacity.”
During his visit, Mazón assured that the investment of 100 million euros in this Leisure Centre and the works in the Port of Torrevieja, which have the backing and authorisations of the Generalitat, “will be a great attraction” for the Vega Baja region and the province of Alicante, while strengthening Torrevieja as a “nerve centre for tourism in the Mediterranean”.
In fact, the head of the Consell has assured that “it can already be seen that the works on the project are progressing at a good pace” and it is expected that in January the car park of the new Leisure Centre with 700 parking spaces will be enabled and the rest of the facilities in the summer of 2025.
Mazón has highlighted Torrevieja as a “perfect city-port pairing” that is integrating port activity and its maritime heritage with the promotion of tourism, leisure, sport and culture.
A comprehensive action in the Port of Torrevieja
Specifically, the investment earmarked for the transformation of the port of Torrevieja amounts to more than 100 million euro, of which around 60 million have been provided by the City Council and the rest by private initiative. Thus, work is being carried out in the new leisure area, as well as works already carried out such as the transfer and renovation of the fishing area, the rehabilitation of the old customs building and the demolition of the old fish market and office and harbour buildings.
