The Costa Blanca is famous for its sun-kissed beaches and vibrant towns, but the true magic is often found where the mountains meet the sea. A walk with a view is the ideal way to get away from the summer crowds and see a different side of the stunning coastline. From easy, family-friendly walks to more adventurous trails, here are five breathtaking coastal hikes you should not miss.
This is arguably the most famous and accessible coastal trail on the Costa Blanca, and for good reason. Located within the Serra Gelada Natural Park, the path to the Albir Lighthouse is a flat, asphalted road that makes it suitable for all ages, pushchairs, and even wheelchairs.
- The View: The walk provides stunning, uninterrupted views of the Bay of Altea, the impressive Sierra de Bernia mountain range, and the natural park’s sheer cliffs.
- What to See: At the end of the 2.5-kilometre trail, you’ll find the historic Albir Lighthouse, which has been transformed into an intriguing interpretation centre. Along the way, you can see the remains of the 16th-century Bombarda watchtower.
- Practical information: The trail is 5 kilometres round-trip and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Parking at the start may be limited, so an early start is recommended.

The Viewpoint Trail (Miradors de Xabia/Javea)
Instead of a single trail, Javea provides a network of 15 official viewpoints, or “miradors,” which can be explored by car or foot. This allows you to choose between a short stroll and a more ambitious walk.
- The View: The views are diverse and breathtaking. The Cap Negre viewpoint overlooks the majestic Montgo mountain, while the Mirador de la Isla provides a postcard-perfect view of the island of Portitxol.
- Explore the various viewpoints, each of which provides a unique perspective on Javea’s rugged coastline, from dramatic cliffs to hidden coves. The town is currently working on improving the First Montanar area and coastal walking routes, so expect to see some changes or improvements. Please be aware that a portion of the Portitxol trail has been closed due to ongoing disputes and development.
- Practical information: You can combine a few viewpoints for a quick walk or explore a longer section. One excellent option is to drive to a few and then take a short walk from a location such as the Mirador de la Falzia for a manageable walk with a significant payoff.

Benissa’s Ecological Walk
For a more tranquil and natural experience, visit the Benissa coast. This 4 km trail is less travelled and winds along the coastline, providing a unique kind of beauty.
- The View: The path follows the rugged coast, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean, small coves, and cliffs. It’s a peaceful alternative to the busier trails.
- What to See: Known as an “ecological walk,” this trail is dotted with informational panels that explain the area’s unique flora and fauna. It connects several small coves, including the stunning Cala Fustera, which is ideal for a refreshing dip before or after a walk.
- Practical information: The trail is easy to moderate and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes because some sections are uneven and rocky.
This is an adventurous hike that rewards the intrepid with a truly spectacular destination: Cova Tallada, a sea cave located at the base of the Cabo de San Antonio cliffs.
- The View: The trail itself offers stunning views of the sea and the cliffs, but the real highlight is the cave itself, a massive, carved cavern that opens directly to the Mediterranean.
- What to See: The cave is historically significant because the rock was quarried centuries ago to build Denia Castle. You can explore the cave and, on a calm day, swim in the natural pool within.
- Practical Information: This walk is rated moderate to difficult and requires a high level of fitness. It involves some scrambling over rocks, so proper hiking shoes are required. It is not appropriate for very young children or people with mobility issues. Allow at least two to three hours for the round trip.
