According to the Superior Police Headquarters of the Valencian Community, five people have been arrested for allegedly plundering the assets of an elderly woman, taking advantage of her vulnerable situation and a degenerative disease she suffered from.
Four men and one woman aged 46 to 71 were detained, including the notary who handled the property purchases, the victim’s two lawyers, her carer, and the buyer of the houses. They are all accused of various offences, including abuse of power, falsification of public documents, fraud, breaches of workers’ rights, and professional misconduct.
According to the police investigation, the inmates allegedly took advantage of the victim’s personal circumstances, since she suffers from a degenerative ailment, and obtained economic benefits worth approximately 785,000 euros.
Sales below real value, loss of equity control
The investigation began in June 2025, when the victim’s relatives filed a complaint claiming that it was getting increasingly difficult to contact her or visit with her in person. This predicament prompted them to examine the Property Registry, where they discovered that the woman’s properties had all been sold.
The examination discovered that the transactions were carried out on the advice of two lawyers who also represented the buyers, resulting in the sales being completed at a significantly lower price than their actual value. All of the deals were formalised before the same notary.
Even in the sale of the affected person’s flat, which was transferred under a bare ownership regime, burdensome requirements were set, potentially resulting in the loss of the usufruct.
Influence of the carer on the victim’s hospitalisation
The agents also discovered that the woman’s carer had been included in her will and was the person with the most control over her, in addition to being in charge of making withdrawals from her bank account.
During the investigation, the victim was hospitalised for several days, and poisons were found in his body, emphasising the gravity of the situation.
As a result of the operation, the National Police arrested the five people involved, one of whom had a criminal past and had already been charged in court.
